Dispute concerning the terms for proposed closure of animal feed plant.
Recommendation:
The Court has considered the issues put before it arising from the
closure of the feed mill and recommends as follows:-
(1) Office Staffing:
That the numbers to go be as proposed by Management, but
that the Union may re-open the position as regards manning
three months after the date of the redundancies in the light
of the experience of the work re-organization.
(2) Volunteers:
Terms over and above general terms for volunteers to be
negotiated directly between the parties, subject to the
condition that those who agree to remain, be guaranteed the
terms set out in (3) below for the period up to 31st
December, 1988 in the event of their being made redundant
within that time.
(3) Payments:
The Court recommends that the Company offer:-
(i) Statutory entitlement.
(ii) 5 weeks basic pay plus shift premium per year of
service under 41 years.
(iii) 5.50 week's basic pay plus shift premium per year of
service, over 41 years.
(iv) #400 lump sum bonus
and that the above offer be accepted by the unions
concerned.
The Court makes the recommendation on the clear assumption
that the closure will take place in an orderly manner with
the least possible disruption of the Company's business.
