Change in working practices.
Recommendation:
Having considered the submissions made by the parties, the Court
recommends on the proposed changes in work practices:-
(a) That the Company continue the existing arrangements for
the cashing of pay cheques.
(b) That the present system of loading hackers continue for
the time being.
On the question of payment of compensation for early starts and
late finishing, the Court does not recommend concession of this
claim.
On the matter of the claim for enhanced weekly payments for the
introduction of the proposed changes, having regard to the fact
that the changes have become necessary to ensure the survival of
the Company, the Court does not consider that any such payment is
feasible.
Furthermore, in the light of the present financial position of the
Company, it is of the view that any further immediate increase in
costs would be inadvisable. However, in order to acknowledge the
co-operation of the staff concerned in carrying out the necessary
changes, the Court recommends that a once off lump sum payment of
#200 be paid to the workers concerned during the month of
December, 1988.
