SERVICES INDUSTRIAL PROFESSIONAL TECHNICAL UNION
SUBJECT:
1. Claim concerning Union recognition and negotiating rights.
BACKGROUND:
2. The Company is involved in the collection of refuse in the
County Laois area. It employs three drivers, all of whom are
members of the Union. The Union lodged a claim for recognition
and negotiating rights on behalf of its members. The claim is
rejected by the Company. On 5th December, 1990, the Union
referred the matter to the Labour Court for investigation and
recommendation under Section 20(1) of the Industrial Relations
Act, 1969. Prior to the Court's investigation of the matter on
18th June, 1991, (the earliest date suitable to the parties), the
Union agreed to be bound by the Court's recommendation. The
Company was not represented at the hearing.
RECOMMENDATION:
3. The Court recommends that the Company recognise the Union and
agree to negotiate with it on behalf of those workers in its
employment who are members.
