File No. EE 24/1999
Date of Issue 04/01/2001
The claimant alleges that she was discriminated against by the respondent in terms of Section 2(a) and Section 2(d) of the Employment Equality Act, 1977 when it offered her a position which had hithertofore reported to her and which would require her to report to a male colleague who had hithertofore been of equal standing to her in the organisation. The claimant alleged that the male colleague was less qualified and had less experience than her for the position. The respondent denied the allegation of discrimination on the basis of the claimant's sex and also her claim of victimisation. The claimant attempted to resolve the matter through normal grievance channels in the respondent organisation. In the course of her attempts to resolve the matter the respondent became aware that she was pregnant and soon after learning of her pregnancy her employment was terminated.
