1. Pay rise.
BACKGROUND:
2. This dispute concerns a pay claim on behalf of General Operatives and Craftworkers. This dispute could not be resolved at local level and was the subject of a Conciliation Conference under the auspices of the Labour Relations Commission. As agreement was not reached, the dispute was referred to the Labour Court on the 5th December, 2014, in accordance with Section 26(1) of the Industrial Relations Act, 1990. A Labour Court hearing took place on the 16th September, 2015.
UNIONS' ARGUMENTS:
3 1 The Workers forbore from lodging a pay claim from 2009-2014 in recognition of the challenges then facing the Company.
2 The Workers have contributed to the Company's increased production and profits.
3 The Workers believe that the Company is now in a position to pay this modest pay claim.
COMPANY'S ARGUMENTS:
4 1 The Company operates in a cost-sensitive global market.
2 The Company's sales have been declining over the last five years.
3. The Company can only consider pay increases which are in line with its comparators.
